About This Site

There are probably quite a few questions that the random visitor would have about this site. Perhaps the foremost amongst those questions is “How did you come up with this name?” The name comes from a friend of mine who annoyingly but successfully organized a lot of the things many of my friends and I did together. The original main purpose of this site was to help all of us keep in touch after moving to different parts of the globe. Since this was an organizational thing, it seemed natural to name the site “blaynesucks.com” and the rest is history. Honestly, what would you do if your friends got together and decided to use the domain name “blaynesucks.com” as a way to help keep in touch? That’s basically what has happened to Blayne.

Currently the site is primarily a personal soap box for me. You can read more about me in my Biography page, but in short I’m a computer geek that likes to rant about various things from Entertainment to Sports to Technology. Some of my personal interests include computer security, Indiana sports teams, and figuring out how to get toothpaste back in the tube efficiently. Most likely, much of this blog will be technology and computer security related though.

The theme for this site was designed by Andreas Viklund and you can download it here: WP-Andreas00. I did change the background picture and I might change some other cosmetic parts of this theme. I don’t really want this website to look like every other blog out there, but I’m not really the best designer of websites. I really like the layout and that will likely stay the same, but some of the coloring may change. Regardless, any changes I make will be detailed here.

The header picture is probably a bit busy, but there’s a lot of meaning to it. The primary purpose of this image is to show the beauty of both nature and technology. I have always liked the imagery of a locomotive schematic. There’s something about the lines in the schematic that add to the streamlined feel of most locomotives. The schematic used was of a NKP locomotive and it was overlaid on a Monner WJG 18 locomotive built in 1928.

The field in the image was one that my Mom took on vacation near Traverse City, Michigan. When I get tired and need a break from things, I really like to just get away from anything even remotely related to technology. I grew up in an area that was relatively remote surrounded by cornfields on all sides. Of course, that area is now bustling with brand new houses and developments under construction. Either way, nature offers a lot of relaxation to me. I find the duality between nature and technology interesting.

Anyhow, that’s what this site is for now. Check back here if anything changes and find out why it happened. I’ll also post a message in the Website News category when this page is updated.
