There’s a ton of cool websites out there that allow people to do all kinds of things. I wanted to collect a few of the sites that I use most often here. Perhaps you’ll find something new and useful.

Education

Linux

  • Gentoo Forums Profile – I am a former site admin for the official Gentoo Linux Forums. I learned way more knowledge than I ever passed along on that site, which is probably just the way the open source philosophy works. I was honored to be an active member of the forums and although I no longer have time to contribute as I once did, I certainly haven’t forgotten the Gentoo Forums. I was one of the earliest members, and I still go there first with any Linux questions I have.

Hobbies

  • LibraryThing Catalog – This is a pretty cool site for a bibliophile. You can catalog your books, get recommendations based on similar libraries created by others, and find reviews.
  • Amazon Wish List – My amazon.com wish list is mostly something I use to track books that I want to read. However, it could certainly prove interesting to others, so I see no reason not to share it here.
  • finetune Profile – finetune allows you to create your own radio station of sorts. You don’t have to own the songs. You don’t have to pay to play them. I think finetune makes money from selling albums. It also has a feature that will automatically recommend other artists to you to fill out your list.
  • All Recipes Profile – I have yet to find a cooking / recipe site that really satisfies my needs. This one feels a bit too commercial and doesn’t provide the control that I would like, but it is none the less one of the best ones out there. From a food standpoint, I think I like the Food Network website better, but from a technical standpoint that site is horribly slow. Also, the Food Network site sometimes removes recipes from your recipe box because they are “unavailable.”
